BvH Men fielded 12 runners in the Midland X-C Championships at Wollaton Park, Nottingham.
BvH Men’s XC Captain, Rob Andrew reports: The 12k race consisted of 4 laps around an undulating, but firm grassland course, and a never-ending long finishing straight. Star performance of the day went to Gary Blackman who finished in 20th place, beating two of the runners who finished ahead of him in the recent County Championships. It is hoped that this excellent performance will seal a place for him in the forthcoming Inter-Counties race in February.
Gary’s run helped Bournville take 8th place in the team event, with Paul Thompson (59th), myself (71st), Gareth (81st),Sam Chatwin (144th) and Brad Tod (145th) completing the team. Promising performances from Sam and Brad in particular and a great tussle between them down the finishing straight.
The ‘B’ team finished 39th with Stuart pearson (169th), Matt Slater (243rd), Paul Dugmore (326th), Paul Gorman (344th), Mark Doudican (353rd) and Barrie (400th).
It was great to see so many runners represent the club in one of the major events in the Cross Country calendar. Everyone was grateful for the support received from the ladies who had raced earlier, as well as our regular supporters.
The warm-down after the race included sights of wild deer in the beautiful park surroundings, as well as Barrie’s 69th birthday cake. (It may not have been his 69th birthday cake, but it was to celebrate his 69th birthday !!)

Next cross country race is the final league race for the season at Cheltenham on February 11th – We would really like to see as many BvH members be part of our team for this race, it would be great to see you there.
I enjoyed participating in this prestigious XC event. The Woolaton Park Course was quite challenging, and although slightly `off the pace`,I was glad to be able to complete the 4 laps in just over the hour! Both Mens Teams ran close to their potential,on the day;as indeed did the Womens` Team. The Results speak for themselves. Thankyou to all the BvH supporters who turned out on the day. I would urge my fellow BvHers to turn out for the final League Race of the season on 11th February,2012 in Cheltenham. It promises to be a very special occasion.
Well done everyone 🙂 It was a great event and a brilliant team effort by the BvH Men and Women
