Lesley Pymm reports: This was the latest in the Wawickshire Road Race League. I turned up at Coventry War Memorial Park, and was pleased that it was cool and a bit drizzly, that suits me! I had expected there to be a few more from the club there, but I was the only one – not even a puddle of teal, just a drop!
I had done many 5 mile races at the park in the past, and there are variations to the course. This time, we did not go out of the park at all. It was a small loop and two large ones, all inside the park. As I set off, I felt my sock work its’ way down my foot and into my shoe. I was a bit worried that this was going to cause a problem. Yes, I had warmed up so that I tested my kit! Don’t know what caused it. Anyway, it seemed to stop under my instep and was not causing any discomfort, so I carried on regardless.
A lot of the usual suspects who I would feel obliged to race against were not there. Probably just as well as I still had Race the Train in my legs! I did it in 48.43. Not brilliant, but I was pleased in the circumstances. It is an undulating course.
Well done Lesley! I had my first experience of the Memorial Park yesterday and thought it was a lovely location for racing. My race took me out onto the roads as well, so was obviously a little different to this course.
