Barrie Roberts reports: As I had the Sunday Morning off, I travelled down to Cardiff with my wife Katie, to participate in the Annual ‘Old Father Time’ 5 Mile Road Race (which also includes the WMAA 5 Mile Road Championships). The Race is organised by Les Croupiers Running Club, and is specifically for +35 age cats. men/women.
It was a well attended occasion and had the usual festive atmosphere. There was a wide range of age and ‘talent’/ability on show. Les Croupiers, like BvH, seek to be inclusive and are very welcoming. The accurately measured Course (two anti-clockwise laps) was across the road/A48 and over a footbridge, from Llandaff Rugby and Athletic Club. Very pleasant running conditions – 12 degrees Centigrade, no rain, light wind, and a flattish/gently undulating tarmac surface. Most of the ‘sleeping policemen/women’, since the last time I ran the Course, had
year I tripped up over one!!
I don`t often run as far as 5 miles! — But I appreciated being able to run three 5 mile races in December. Much of my running in 2018 can be described as ‘sound, but off the pace’. I have slowed down in recent times, but with ‘smart running/racing’, may get some of my middle distance leg-speed back in the year ahead.
