In 2016 we officially twinned with Newbridge Athletic Club based in the town of Newbridge, Co. Kildare. Newbridge was founded in 1947 and caters for the full range of track and field events and for all age groups from Juvenile to Masters and also has a thriving ‘Fit for Life’ group which welcomes beginners and runners of all abilities.
The purpose of the twinning arrangement is to foster friendships between our communities, to provide opportunities for members to travel to each others races and to share ideas and good practice. Both clubs share similar values and welcome members of all abilities. We welcome suggestions from club members as to how we can take the relationship between the clubs forward.
The clubs first met up to race at the Kildare Thoroughbred Races in June 2017, with Newbridge then making the return journey to Bournville in 2018, when we enjoyed the Cannock Chase 10k. The most recent meeting took us to Kilkenny for the Medieval Marathon races (10km, Half Marathon and 30km options were available). So far we’ve been blessed with good weather on every occasion (although perhaps not ideal weather for racing!)
Members of both clubs can get involved by joining the Twinned Running Clubs Group on Facebook or by speaking to a member of the committee.
