I’d be interested to hear if you are having any problems viewing the new website.
It seems that it doesn’t show propoerly to people using Internet Explorer version 6 on a PC. Anyone else got issues? I use an Apple Mac and it works well on all browsers. Add a comments if you have specific issues.
Other more general comments about the website as we test it our very welcome.

Hi Martin
It could well be that you’ve had an email response – apologies if I duplicate.
The 5k series is not actually a Bournville Harriers event – it’s a Rowheath fixture in the summer calendar (www.birminghamrowheath.co.uk), so the events should be available there at some stage. (I can only see June on there at the moment).
BvH do, however, train from the Pavilion, and there is a link on here to show where we are – we may need to make that easier, for potential new members, to find if you’ve struggled to locate the detail!
Hope you had a good race.
Kelley
Can’t see the results for your 5k series and other races on the new site. Also I could not find the address of the Pavillion to run in the 5k race tonight. Would be good to know where the club was with a nice map. Found it in the end on Google.
Martin
Birchfield.
Wer’e on the right track, but I think we need to use less aggressive lower font, and be a bit more realistic, in our claims.
Somthing like…..
bournville harriers, possibly one of the nicest running clubs in bournville…..AND THATS A FACT! …… [subject to ratification]
I share Chris H-M enthusiasm to proclaim our friendliness as a Running Club.Perhaps `we` could have a banner which says:-
BOURNVILLE HARRIERS WELCOMES RUNNERS OF ALL STANDARDS.
or
YOU ARE ASSURED OF A WARM WELCOME AT BOURNVILLE HARRIERS.
or
BOURNVILLE HARRIERS – ONE OF ENGLANDS FRIENDLIEST CLUBS.
I take Ed & Barrie’s point, but I actually like the idea of proclaiming our friendliness on the site. Could we not have “Probably the friendliest running club in the world” in the banner? We could seek sponsorship from Carlsberg…
Shock Horror I may well made an error or two in requesting additions to the track categories in the Club Records and Ranking Tables.
I meant to ask for a 10 000M category and possibly a 5 000M category.
I don`t think that I have fully recovered from my trip down under!
Sorry to be so mean Dave, as otherwise the site looks good.
Barrie hits the nail on the head with more tact and diplomacy than I can muster.
Keep up the good work and thanks for putting the time in.
ps, I forgot to mention I have 7 years no claims bonus, if it’s any help.
I do think that `we` are a friendly and generally welcoming Club, but by saying that we are `Birmingham`s friendliest Running Club` does, arguably, suggest that some of our neighbouring Clubs are possibly less friendly and welcoming. And maybe there is a touch of arrogance in such a description.Furthermore,I find that my fellow runners/athletes/members in other Clubs are invariably welcoming, polite and encouraging. This is one of the wonderful things about our sport.of running.I think that Ed has made a good point.
I added the ‘friendly’ tag, partly just to fill the space, partly because I think we’re a friendly club and should be more upfront about that. If there’s a consensus to change it or leave that space blank then I’m happy to comply.
I notice we have become “Birmingham’s friendliest Running club”
How did we find out ?,,, did we visit all the other clubs in Birming ham?…. in disguise, as a potential new member ?
I doubt we are “Birminghams friendliest running club” if I’m an example
What next….Centre of excellence, passionate about this and that….Best kept secret..
Enjoy..etc, etc, etc.
Let’s drop the cliches… unless we’re selling insurance … in the 80s.
If that is the case what’s the best we can do on a N reg polo, fully comp?
Dear Web Master(s), Could `we` please have a 10M Track category in Club Records and Rankings.
Many thanks Barrie Roberts
PS.I don`t know who has run 5M Track, but maybe there should be that category as well.
Useful comments. It’s deliberately functional as I think that better serves its core audience (us lot) and also gives a view to the outside world that we’re a busy, active club with lots going on.
Worth noting that when I bring in the old site’s archive then this will be a much more searchable and rich resource for the club. Or at least I hope so…
Keep the comments coming – most useful as I continue to tinker with the site.
You’re right, Barrie. I think a good web site should be task orientated. It’s the way we design things nowadays (human centric design). It’s all well and good having an attractive site but what really counts is how quick is it to do the things I use this site for…
I like the new Website, and ,as with the former site, I feel sure that I will soon get used to it.
Thankyou to Dave Harte, and all those concerned with setting it up.
I like the Race Categories Sections.eg. Road,XC,Trail and Fell,Ultra, and Track.
I like the Comments facilities which will improve communications between members.
The site,at first sight seems very `task specific/orientated` and I feel that for sheer practicality and manageability/work load ;especially by key office holders and committeee members, that this is the right and appropriate way forward.
Thanks for this Gary. I’ve now taken off the complete category list that was on the left so that the top-level categories are now only listed in the menu bar with drop-downs to each sub-category.
New site looks very good. Initially it takes a while to orientate yourself as there is quite a lot crammed into one page. But you soon learn where to look for the stuff you’re interested in. Biggest plus is being able to comment on race reports.
Only very very minor comment would be for more consistency in the Category names. And if possible use sub-categories rather than all top-level. E.g. Race Reports as a general heading with individual distances as subs. Just makes things quicker to find especially as this list may get fairly long.
Good job
Having a good look round – I like it!
