Bournville Harriers scored a great one-two in the rain-affected Stratford Half Marathon with Orlando Corea and Paul Thompson coming first and second.
The weather resulted in the full marathon being cancelled and all runners just ran the half. See below for list of all the results for Bournville Harriers’ runners.
Below is a video from the day including an interview with Orlando.

Race report from Neil Loy: I am a new member and the above was my first race in a club shirt. I wanted to submit a report but also a thankyou.
I have been to a couple of Saturday morning sessions and a Thursday session so far and having never been to a running club before I was a bit nervous.I have found everyone very friendly and welcoming and the sessions very challenging which is exactly what I was after. The mix of abilities also allows anyone to transition into the training without finding it intimidating.
The Race
I saw one other BVH member around the course, not sure if there were any others but even if you didn’t go you will have been aware of how awful the weather was on Sunday. The full Marathon was called off on health and safety grounds, (for once the H and S people may have had a point). This was announced at the startline and there were many disgruntled people making angry noises at the time. I imagine many of them will have been relieved after being blown about and soaked by freezing torrents down the monotonous stretch of the Greenway section.
The route itself is flat and pleasant on the eye if you dont have to stare down at the ground to avoid the freezing rain being whipped into your eyes. The organisation was great and my hat goes off to every volunteer and spectator who stood out there cheering people on. It did make a real difference out in the exposed bits of the countryside.
I think it would have been a very fast course had it not been for the conditions. With a following wind on the outbound section it was quite bearable and even pleasant. The inbound route more than made up for it.
The finish was a bit disappointing with a small bottle of water and a medal to show for the effort but I have only the Birmingham Half Marathon to compare it to which undoubtably attracts a bit more sponsorship etc. T shirts etc had to be purchased if required.
The real prize for me though was the feeling of getting through it and a new PB. 1:26:48 and 20th place on the chip time.
I look forward to many more races in the BVH colours and more PB’s hopefully, following the great training provided by the coaches. Look forward to meeting some more of you in the future.
Should have been wearing wellies on the Greenway 🙂 Congratulations Orlando and Paul- excellent performances- and well done Neil and the rest of us! This was my first half and what with the weather and a month of tooth traumas I certainly found it challenging 🙂 I didn’t expect to run the first two miles sporting a bin bag – a look favored by a fair few-as it was so cold- maybe that’s why you found it hard to spot us Neil? Personally I absolutely required a T-Shirt at the end-if only to halt the onset of hypothermia ;)-then a new bin bag on top-such style!! Fantastic support from fellow Harriers-thank you 🙂
What the Greenway boring?… five miles of straight flat track… pure running… without the distraction of such gimmicks as hills and bends… Go on, give it some welly
Well done to all of you who completed this event – especially to Paul and Orlando for their ‘one two’. Respect to all of you – I have only done this once and got so bored on the Greenway that I walked, and that was in decent weather. Actually, probably too decent as my memory is that the Stratford events are usually run in very warm conditions. I have never had the desire to do it again and really do admire anyone who does it in any conditions, but especially those on Sunday.
Good to hear from new BvH Club member Neil Loy.His Race Report + Video from the day (including Orlando`s Interview) made for compelling reading/watching.Whilst I can understand the disappointment of those who had prepared for and were expecting to run the full marathon distance, looking at the extremely wet and blustery conditions and the amount of surface water and mud in places,I am sympathetic with the organisers who had a duty of care for all the participants.(Risk assessment is a personal, but also a collective matter).
Wonderful Results for BvH with so many runners, lead by Orlando and Paul, completing the 13.1 miles in most respectable times.CONGRATULATIONS to you all. Barrie Roberts
Yes an interview with Orlando and his “amazing moving forehead”.
Ed, you are a legend of poetry.
Just add water and Orlando blooms.
