The Annual `Old Father Time 5 Mile Road Race` is hosted and run by Les Croupiers Running Club who are based at Llandaff Rugby Club, Cardiff. This year it was run on Sunday 30th December, 2012 – Start 1:00pm. The temperature got into double figures (10/11 degrees), but with a strong squally wind there was a significant chill factor —- And there were more puddles and mud than usual – only to be expected with all the pre-race rain. The course is for the most part over a tarmac surface and consists of two anti-clockwise loops within `a park-setting`. However, there is a start/finish straight with a generous presence of `sleeping policemen` ie. very easy to trip over (I managed to stay upright this year!).I managed to run a SB and completed the 5 Miles distance in 39:27. I was 2nd in my Age Cat, to an athlete who was almost 5 years younger than me, and acquired a Silver Medal (WMAA) for my endeavours on the day. I think I might have gone a little faster if it hadn`t been for the windy conditions, but then, so would all the others!
Les Croupiers Running Club (similar in size to Bournville Harriers) has been in existance for the best part of 40 years and invariably gives visitors a warm welcome. I appreciated the hot showers and the food and drink afterwards. As well as acquiring a medal I won a decent bottle of red wine.
My wife Katie (who chose not to run on this particular occasion) and I appreciated being at a welcoming and well run event.
