Not The Roman Nine – 15 Jan 2012

Nicola Morris Reports:  Certainly an interesting start……and I have to say a bit of a challenge ……..collecting numbers and chips, negotiating a large number of runners all in quite a small room, finding a toilet that wasn’t blocked or didn’t have a queue and making our way to the start, putting our belongings in to a van en route and shivering the rest of the way to the start line……it was very cold and frosty!

I was very pleased to get to the start line and eager to get started.  With quite a sudden start we were moving, out in to the countryside surrounding Stratford.  A lot of uphill in the first half of the race which certainly got the blood pumping and the cold was soon forgotten.  At the top of one of the hills it was a real boost to see a marshall shouting excitedly that we had reached the top!

The uphill was rewarded with the majority of the second half of the race being downhill and other than a few bends where it was a little slippy, the sun was out, the route was beautiful and I was almost enjoying myself!

Counting down the km, I was soon at the 10km mark and at an unusual distance of 12km, this left only 2km to go.

Round the final bend for the last 200 metres to the finish line and cheers of support from Kathryn and Simon who had already finished.

There was a good turnout of Bournville Harriers and lots of comments about what a really enjoyable race it had been.
