Men’s XC League race 3 at Wyken Croft Park Coventry

BvH’s men’s cross country team achieved their best result to date in the
third league fixture at Wyken Croft Park Coventry on 11th January 2014. The full results can be found at

The course was wet under foot(but nothing compared to last week at the Warwickshires!) with many twists and turns but the weather on the day was bright and perfect for running.

The team had its largest turnout so far this season with 20 runners with a number making their first appearance of the season, a number returning from injury but we lost Sean Rose to injury and Rich Bayliss to a broken down car! The A team finished first on the day and now has a 150 point lead in the table.  Dean Parker continued his impressive form and finished in the top ten runners for the first time this season in 8th place. Dean was followed by myself, Sam Chatwin and Matt Cook packing well in positions 16,17 and 18! Gareth Cadd made a welcome return from illness to finish in 26th place and Chris Collins showed what he can do with the right footwear and an 80 mile endurance race out of his legs (see below) and finished in 37th.  The B team, led home by John McKeon and Oliver Kirkland, finished with a 10 point improvement on the last race.
Thanks to all those that ran and the supporters who cheered us around the course. Particular thanks to Sean Rose for fufilling our marshalling duties and to Barrie and Katie Roberts for collecting the scores.

So barring any disasters we should return to division 1 after the last race at Counden Park Coventry on February 8th. Hope to see as many as possible there.

Cheers,
Paul Thompson

For those that didn’t know Chris Collins finished 1st in the Orrell 12 hour race on December 29th 2013. That’s 70×1.2 laps=84 miles, although Chris claims it was slightly under distance, but still an impressive achievement!

  1. It was a delight to witness BvH`s Mens Cross Country Team best result to date in the third Birmingham League Division 2 Fixture at Wyken Croft Park,Coventry on Saturday last 11th January,2014.There was some encouraging packing in good positions;strength in depth is the key to success.

I hope that there will be an even better turn out on February 8th,2014.There is no room for any complacency.Let us get back to Division 1 `in style.`

PS.I don`t know what Chris Collins eats/drinks —— but I wouldn’t mind some of it!
