Marianne Hensman Reports: It’s been a while since I wrote a race report but today I fulfilled a long time ambition and feel compelled to share it. I’ve wanted to do this race ever since I first joined a running club in 2003. Thanks to the MS Trust I finally found myself on the start line of the world’s biggest half marathon excited but a bit nervous. The race was started by Rio Olympic medallist Amy Tinkler and off we went. Great sights on the route included – running over Tyne bridge at mile 2, Red arrows overhead during and after the run. I managed not to get distracted – thanks for the tip Linda! Also drummers, steel bands, first glimpse of the sea after a short sharp hill at 12 miles, lots of high fives and I was done in 1.40 47.
Very pleased with that on a warm day and undulating course. Hooray for the MS Trust for providing sports massage at the end. And thanks to Colin Jackson for choosing me for an interview! What a great day.
That’s so cool! You got to meet Colin Jackson?! And you did the Great North Run (that’s good too!). Well done Marianne, super time.
Thankyou Marianne for your Great North Run Report. I have run it on a number of occasions, including 2000, when my son David accompanied me. But I havn`t run it as fast as you! Your time is impressive, running in such a large field.Congratulations on your considerable achievement. You have truly earned your Great North Medal.
Well done Marianne, an awesome time and a great report. GNR still ranks as one of my favourite races for the incredible local support. Thank you for sharing your run and meeting Colin!
