Barrie Roberts Reports: On Easter Sunday afternoon I discovered hat there was a race on the following day that I might be able to participate in. And so I drove 45 mins down the M5 to get to the Start of this Annual Bank Holiday Race.
The weather was dry,but on the cold side. The Race HQ was at the Bushley Cricket Club. I ran the 1 mile to the Start, but got cold hanging about at the Start, which was a few minutes late. The Course was on a good
road surface, undulating with a 200m uphill section to the Finishing Line.
5,4,3,2,1 Go —- We were away (left knee hurting!) I struggled for the first quarter of a mile, but once warmed up ran ok.The first home was a runner from Leamington AC in a time of 4:55. Midland Clubs were well represented and included: Cheltenham Harriers, Worcester AC, Tipton Harriers, Gloucester AC, Stratford Upon Avon AC, CLC Striders, Arena80 AC + Brighton and Hove AC.
The Race was well organised, but had an informal atmosphere, and had the advantage of being run on a closed rural road. I finished 36th out of 43 finishers in a time of 7:37 —- a good training run! I`m currently ranked 1st in the UK for my Age Cat, but that may not last for long!!
Hot drinks, Cakes, BBQ – hot dogs, beef burgers + alcohol were available for all visitors + toilets. A good Family Day/half-day out. A Fun Run took place following the Main Race.
PS. I hope that next year `we` may get a few more BvHers at this 1 Mile Race, which takes place in lovely rural surroundings.
Well done Barrie – sounds like a great race and the refreshments sound like it is worth the trip (although only running a mile I might have to watch the calories in vs out!) I’m very keen to take part in some more mile races. I will definitely add this one to the list.
