BRAT Rowheath 5k – 10th August 2016

Barrie Roberts provides a summary of the recent BRAT 5k: There was a good turnout (210 runners/athletes completed this `challenging` 5k course) for this annual 5k road race and Midlands running clubs were well represented. Runners of all abilities took part and the weather was warm and dry.

Local man, Richard Gray from BRAT, was first to finish in a time of 15:16 and Gayna McCarthy, in a dogged performance, was the last recorded runner to finish and completed the distance in a time of 49:32.

BvH`s Richard Bayliss (M35) finished in the first 10 of this very competitive Race, and won his age category, as indeed did Barrie Roberts (M70). Chris Collins, Andy Wheeler, Stephen Forcer and Daniel Wilson all ran under 20 mins. Emily Holden was first BvH lady home in a commendable time of 22:07. She was closely followed by Suz West, Jude Glynn, Sarah Rock and Stacey Marston, who all ran well.

Usually, there is a larger turnout from BvH , for this long established local road race. Unfortunately, this year there was a clash of dates with the Droitwich 10k (part of the Worcester Summer Mid-week Series) taking place on the same night. Nevertheless 15 BvHers completed the BRAT Rowheath 5km Road Race — And all finishers are to be congratulated.

  1. Thanks also to everyone who came to support – it was the first time I had done this race and having some friendly, familiar faces helped with the fact that it was one of the most “serious” of events I have taken part in. Great performances everyone! Well done to BRAT for the organisation.
