Jude Glyn reports: Described on Runners World as ‘Flat/undulating’, at 5 miles – well that’s less than 10K AND with a T-shirt for all finishers – I thought this would be a splendid way for a novice runner to spend a Sunday morning- even if I couldn’t convince anyone to join me!
It all seemed pretty well organised , there was plenty of free parking and we were soon off- albeit rather slowly due to the combination of congestion and traffic ramps in the hospital grounds! After the first two miles of a steady uphill climb I definitely felt Martin'(Foster)s remark ‘I believe it’s hilly’ summed things up rather more accurately than ‘flat/undulating’ but luckily for me I’d had the benefit of a couple of Hill Rep sessions this year (thank you coaches)-those were certainly put to good use 🙂
A welcome downhill and a flattish stretch through scenic Dudley led to a rather unwelcome final uphill climb towards the finish-nasty! As I approached the finish I was spurred on by a shout of ‘Come on Bournville’ (although I’ve no idea who that lovely person was!) My time was 42.30 which put me in the top half of the results- I was happy AND I got my first ever race T- shirt 🙂
