Hanchurch 2013 2

How long have you been a member of BvH?

I think it must be about 6 years – I can’t really remember when I joined!  I know it was one of the best things I did.

If you see me in the Pavilion Bar, you can buy me a…

1/2 of real ale, I’m usually driving…..

Favourite racing distance?

1/2 marathon – but on trail, I don’t do much on road.

Favourite race/event?

Not a half – but my favourite event is the Grizzly.  I’ve done it about 17 times and love it.  20 miles (or so) of mud, cliffs and beach.  A great day out.

Proudest moment as a runner?

Completing the Dartmoor Discovery Ultra, which was then about 34 miles.  It was in June and the weather was dreadful.  I wore thermals the whole way through it.  At about 28 miles, Mike came by in the car and I demanded food.  I just stood at the back of the car stuffing my face, then carried on to the finish where I got a pint of Jail Ale!

Why Bournville Harriers?

We have really good runners and I am proud to be associated with them by being a team mate.  There is also a place for those who want to run for pleasure.  Those of us who want to compete and do as best we can (maybe in age groups etc.) are also encouraged and supported.  There is speed work on club nights, as well as steady runs.  I don’t get to the club much since I’ve retired as I find that I prefer to train during the day; but I did appreciate the coached sessions when I was attending regularly.   We get lots of runners out in the XC league and the relays; there is a real team spirit.  The social side of the club is good too.  I have always enjoyed the Grand Prix and the Tour and hope that something comes along to replace them in future years.

Proudest moment as a runner?

To be able to run each week at the club to keep fit and to have completed the tour of Bournville in all but one of the years since it started.

Why Bournville Harriers?

It is a friendly club and caters for all types of runners no matter what their ability is. The beginners section is such a good idea.

Soft drink eg lime cordial or orange juice.

Favourite racing distance?

Ah! Difficult one that. I don’t particularly enjoy racing, I just like watching other people race. 5km least disliked.

Favourite race/event?

Favourite race/event :-  Cross country [from the spectators point of view].

Proudest moment as a runner?

Completing my first Tour of Bournville in 2011.

Why Bournville Harriers?

My husband Barrie has been a member for many years and Rowheath harriers before that. I had got to know a number of members when watching races and find BVH a friendly and inclusive club.

How long have you been a member of BvH?

I’ve Been a member of BVH since the Autumn of 2012.

If you see me in the Pavilion Bar, you can buy me a…

… pint of real ale.

Favourite racing distance?

That’s such a difficult question to answer; I always seem to struggle in half marathons and have yet to get my race strategy right, starting either too slow or too fast. Until I nail it, this distance remains my focus and favourite.

Favourite race/event?

My favourite race to date is a toss up between the Malvern Joggers 10k (probably the free curry afterwards as opposed to the hills) and the Croome Capability Canter (great race, great setting, well organised). Either way I definitely favour off road events.

Proudest moment as a runner?

Managing to finish my first cross country race (Leamington) since leaving school.

Why Bournville Harriers?

I joined specifically to do the Cross Country League races; that was after being assured by Olly Kirkland (our daughters are at the same school) that I did not have to be fast to join BvH.

Favourite race/event?

My favourite race…Ashby 20- jelly babies, gels and chocolate on the way round plus a hoodie and a cheese bap at the end-marvellous! (of course this isn’t a half marathon..)

Proudest moment as a runner?

Proudest moment as a runner…hmm… well last year’s Con Ed 10k was pretty good as I got a PB , won my age cat and was part of the BVH winning team-for me it doesn’t get much better than that!

Why Bournville Harriers?

Why BVH? Well where else? Joined the Beginners Course two years ago at the suggestion of a friend (the lovely Lesley Proctor) so I could manage to run Race for Life in memory of a friend who had just died on the birthday we shared (running this was a pretty proud moment too). Then I got hooked on running! Such a friendly club, welcomes everyone regardless of ability, really encouraging and lots of opportunities if you’re willing to give things a go! ( Reckless enthusiasm can find you running in National sporting events … 🙂 )
