Merry Christmas from the Committee

As we come to the end of another year and a time for reflection over the holidays, I’ve been thinking about the importance of our community and the role of the club in our lives. So many of you have told me what it means to you to be part of Bournville Harriers, from those who’ve just begun their running journeys with us, to new members achieving PBs at different distances, making firm friends and even those of us who’ve been sidelined, who have continued to feel the warmth of “Injury Corner” or embraced the opportunity to bag some volunteering brownie points.

We’ve made many happy memories throughout the year, from the Tealies to the Christmas Party, the Yacht Handicap, Leafy 10k, and the on-going success of Run and Talk. Some of us enjoyed our first “exchange visit” to Newbridge as well as travelling and racing together at the various Teal Targets throughout the year, the inaugural Birmingham International Marathon and many more events besides. Our coaching team have given us some amazing Thursday night sessions, which have proved so popular we’ve started to double up! I’d like to thank everyone, especially our Committee members and Coaching team for making all of that happen, welcoming new members and providing a vibrant club experience for all.

There are a few opportunities to run together over the next week or two (including the Pyjama Pursuit), although our usual Monday night runs will not be taking place until 8th January. As members of BvH, what brings us together is running, but we are a community beyond that and as such I know that the support of Team Teal will extend itself to those who might find themselves away from their loved ones this year, and others who, for different reasons may find the festive season particularly difficult and who will miss their regular routines.

I do hope you’ll have the opportunity to rest over the next week or two, and perhaps prepare yourself for your New Year in running, setting some targets and maybe signing up for your races. On behalf of the whole Committee I’d like to wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy 2018.
