Paul Foot reports on an off-road pre-FLM race on Cannock Chase:
A long fell race in the diary at the end of the month brought me to the Milford start line. Training has been pretty disastrous lately and I wanted to prove to myself that I could coax my body around this distance and tackle a few hills to boot.
A time 5 mins outside of last year was something of a relief, although I was starting to suffer in the final few miles.
Potential 2009 marathoners: add this to your list of training races. It’s well organised and far more scenic than the usual 20 milers, plus the trails are firm enough that you can wear normal running shoes and not fall over.
